February 25, 2026Statement from the Chair – “Democrats on the Offensive”
Baton Rouge – Last night during the State of the Union address, we saw a weak, failed president lie for the entire two hours that he was at the podium. As expected, he doubled down on failed policies of higher cost, ineffective and dysfunctional immigration control, and endless chaos for the American people.
He barely mentioned the affordability crisis and the escalating costs American citizens face every day. We are witnessing a repetitive pattern of complete policy failures, and his inability to remotely correct his insensitive, neglectful policies and behavior is an insult to our hard-working citizens who struggle to get by each and every day.
Americans across the country are continuing to rise up and are holding heedless Republicans accountable for Trump’s failures. Democrats swept three additional special elections during Trump’s speech, bringing our total wins and over performances to 251 out of 281 since Trump’s election.
While Republicans are on their heels and attempting to defend Trump’s failed record, Democrats are on the offensive and ready to win big in November.
Trump promised lower costs; instead, his billionaires-first economic agenda and reckless trade wars have led to higher prices, unaffordable healthcare, and the worst job market in recent years. Trump is merely exploiting the people who voted for him and using the presidency to enrich himself, his family, and his wealthy donors. Trump’s family members have pocketed nearly 2.5 billion since he took office. He’s made America less safe by deploying masked, insufficiently trained ICE agents in American cities.
Let us remember the countless Republican Party failures and their complete lack of concern for the well-being of the citizens of this great state and nation, and turnout and vote in overwhelming numbers to VOTE DEMOCRAT in our upcoming elections.

CHAIR’S STATEMENT: THE PERPETUATION OF ABSURDITY

CHAIR’S STATEMENT: THE PERPETUATION OF ABSURDITY
Baton Rouge – We have seen numerous articles highlighting Trump’s contradictory and
vacillating behavior, as well as his failure to keep promises related to lowering grocery
prices, preserving jobs, strengthening the economy, and not starting a war. The true issue,
however, is why he was believed in the first place. Some political pundits have even
expressed disappointment over these unfulfilled promises from an individual who has
repeatedly demonstrated a pattern of dishonesty and an apparent inability to tell the truth.
The question is not simply what is wrong with Trump. Rather, it is what is inherently
wrong within Republican leadership—and more importantly, what it says about our
society—that such an individual could be knowingly elected President. There was no
reasonable or compelling justification for his election. He lacked foreign policy
experience, had no record of public service on any level, and showed no capacity for
honesty.
He has consistently exhibited mean-spirited, narcissistic behavior, openly expressed
dictatorial viewpoints, and frequently shifted positions on critical issues. The only
consistent element has been his race baiting and racially divisive rhetoric. In the absence
of any clear or credible qualifications, this raises uncomfortable but necessary questions
about the underlying reasons for his support.
It was recently announced that the Louisiana House of Representatives passed a bill to
name a proposed, non-existent bridge after Trump. This proposal is an insult to the
taxpayers of Louisiana. Support for such a measure reflects a troubling reality—one that
underscores how a dangerous and unstable individual could rise to the highest office in
this great nation.
Louisiana can do better. We must do better.

Statement From the Louisiana Democratic Party: Regarding the Actions of Republican Senator Jay Morris

Statement From the Louisiana Democratic Party: Regarding the Actions of Republican Senator Jay Morris
Baton Rouge – The Louisiana Democratic Party strongly condemns the unacceptable and racially charged remarks made by Republican State Senator Jay Morris during proceedings before the Louisiana State Senate and Governmental Affairs Committee, in which Louisiana Democratic Party Executive Director Dadrius Lanus, a Black man, was told to “Shut up boy!”
The use of the word “boy” toward Black men has a long and painful history in America and has often been recognized as racially derogatory, demeaning, and offensive. Such language is completely inappropriate under any circumstance, but especially within the chambers of Louisiana’s government where elected officials are expected to conduct themselves with professionalism, dignity, and respect.
Racially insensitive rhetoric and hostile conduct have no place in our democratic institutions. This type of language cannot, will not, and should never be tolerated from anyone elected to serve the people of Louisiana.
The Louisiana Democratic Party believes Senator Morris’ actions fall far below the standard expected of a public servant and undermine the integrity of the Louisiana State Senate. The citizens of our state deserve leadership rooted in respect, accountability, and civility — not inflammatory and divisive behavior.
As a result, the Louisiana Democratic Party will formally submit a request to the Office of the President of the Louisiana State Senate seeking appropriate disciplinary action and sanctions against Senator Morris.
We remain committed to standing against racism, discrimination, and the normalization of hateful rhetoric in every form. Louisiana must move forward together — not backward into the politics of disrespect and division.
