Statement from Randal L. Gaines, Chair of the Louisiana Democratic Party Tuesday’s sweeping Democratic Victories
Baton Rouge – Tuesday’s sweeping Democratic victories across the nation represent a defining and pivotal moment for our party and for our vital democratic cause. We must rally our Democratic forces behind this awakening — a recognition by voters everywhere of the damaging impact of right-wing Republican leadership.
Democratic leaders have consistently shown the commitment, courage, and moral fiber required to protect the public interest, build a strong economy, and save our nation’s true democratic form of government.
In Tuesday’s elections, Democrats ran strong candidates, waged strategic campaigns, and drove record voter turnout by staying focused on what matters most — affordability, opportunity, and the everyday concerns of working families. These victories show what’s possible when we meet voters where they are and speak directly to their needs and hopes.
These tremendous wins nationwide mark a turning point — the emergence of a national movement to reclaim our country from the grip of tyrannical power predators who seek power through division and control.
Here in Louisiana, and across America, our work continues. Right-wing republican extremists are working to manipulate election systems and strip away our rights for generations to come. We must not let them succeed.
Now is the time for Democrats to rise up and fight back — to call out these anti-democratic power grabs. To not only register a new generation of voters, but to “VOTE” in massive numbers in “EVERY election and to ensure that every Democrat votes.
It’s time to step up, stand up, and save our democracy — and save our future.

Louisiana Democratic Party Disability Caucus Condemns “Big Beautiful Bill” for Harming Vulnerable Communities
Lynette Bech and Jonathan Loveall, Co-Chairs
Baton Rouge, LA — July 4, 2025— The Louisiana Democratic Party Disability Caucus strongly disapproves of the recently passed “Big Beautiful Bill,” which slashes funding for essential assistance programs, including SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), Medicaid, and Medicare.
These devastating cuts will directly impact Louisiana’s most vulnerable populations—low-income families, people with disabilities, and seniors—many of whom depend on these programs for food, healthcare, and basic stability.
Additionally, the bill fails to include the critical tax credits and subsidies under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), a move that will cause health insurance premiums to rise for thousands of Louisianans.
“This bill is an attack on the dignity and survival of people who are already struggling,” said Lynette Bech, Co- Chair of the Louisiana Democratic Disability Caucus. “It punishes the disabled, the elderly, and the working poor to fund an agenda that does not reflect the values or priorities of our state.”
According to the Louisiana Department of Health, over 1.9 million residents are currently enrolled in Medicaid. Cutting funding to this program alone puts nearly 40% of the state’s population at risk.
“We need to hold accountable every lawmaker who voted for this reckless bill,” said Debbie McCloud, Caucus Member and disability rights advocate. “They ignored the needs of their constituents, and we won’t forget that in November.”
The Louisiana Democratic Party Disability Caucus is calling on residents across the state to speak out, mobilize, and vote for representatives who will protect—not punish—our most vulnerable communities.

Statement from the Chair: Passage of the “Big, Beautiful Bill” and our Plan to Fight
BATON ROUGE, LA — The Louisiana Democratic Party stands in firm opposition to the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill,” a deeply harmful piece of legislation that will devastate working families, seniors, children, and the most vulnerable members of our state. Louisiana’s citizens’ sustainable health and very lives depend on having access to affordable medical care.
Behind the flashy name lies a cruel agenda. This bill includes sweeping cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, and SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program)—vital programs that millions of Louisianans rely on to survive and live with dignity.
What’s at Stake:
● Medicare Cuts:
The bill slashes funding for Medicare, threatening the health and well-being of over 850,000 Louisiana seniors and people with disabilities who depend on it for doctor visits, prescription drugs, and hospital care.
● Medicaid Cuts:
Medicaid, which covers more than 1.9 million Louisiana residents, including low-income families, children, pregnant women, and people with disabilities, faces severe reductions. These cuts will force families to choose between medical care and putting food on the table. 33 of our rural hospitals will close with the passage of this bill.
● Food Stamps (SNAP) Restrictions:
At a time when food insecurity is rising, the bill imposes harsh restrictions on SNAP benefits, disproportionately harming children, single mothers, and working-class Louisianans who are already struggling to keep up with the cost of living.
This bill does not reflect Louisiana values. It is an attack on our neighbors, our communities, and our future. It places the burden of budget cuts on everyday people while protecting massive tax breaks for corporations and the ultra-wealthy. This bill will severely obstruct and in many cases, eliminate the ability of the state to deliver lifesaving medical treatment to over a million of Louisiana’s citizens who desperately depend on affordable medical care.
We Fight Back:
Once again, Louisiana’s Republican Delegation has placed self-serving political agendas before the wellbeing of our citizens. The Louisiana Democratic Party will not stand by as Washington politicians and their enablers in Baton Rouge push policies that punish our people. We will mobilize, organize, and stand with families, seniors, healthcare workers, and advocates to fight back against the devastating effects of this legislation on our state. We want to hear from and work with you directly, and we will be traveling parish by parish on our Fight For Our Lives Tour to listen to your concerns, share resources, and stand shoulder to shoulder in the fight to protect your health, your dignity, and your future.

“Louisiana Democrats Secure Major Victory against Jeff Landry and Harmful Amendments”
Baton Rouge – I am overjoyed to see the groundswell of Democrats come together from across Louisiana to give Jeff Landry a resounding defeat. Together, with voters from every party, people came to the conclusion that the constitutional amendments were at best misguided – at worst an attempt to give tax breaks to the rich while locking up more of our children. That is not the Louisiana values we stand for. Let us take this victory and continue to build toward a more equitable prosperous future for everyone in our state.
The Louisiana Democratic Party along with our dedicated supporters, worked tirelessly to educate voters about the dangers of the amendments. The Louisiana Democratic Party is committed to fighting for policies and initiatives that prioritize working families, protect civil rights, and ensure a stronger, more equitable Louisiana. We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that the voices of everyday Louisianans are heard and respected on every level of government.

WHY OUR NATION NEEDS DEI PROGRAMS
Baton Rouge – Why Our Nation Needs DEI Programs
DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) programs have proven to be among the most effective
initiatives for strengthening America’s workforce. A diverse workforce leads to more effective
decision-making and strategic organizational planning. Businesses that embrace DEI as part of
their organizational structure often experience higher financial returns compared to those that do
not.
Marginalized communities — including women, people of color, and the LGBTQ+ community
— frequently encounter unjust career barriers. DEI programs address these disparities by
implementing fair hiring practices, which attract larger pools of qualified applicants and reduce
turnover rates. Women of all races have particularly benefited from DEI programs through
increased access to business opportunities, development capital, and career advancement.
A common misconception about DEI programs is that they result in the hiring of unqualified
candidates. In reality, DEI initiatives aim to ensure that the most qualified applicants are not
unfairly excluded due to race, gender, or other biases. These programs do not give advantages to
unqualified individuals; rather, they work to prevent the most capable candidates from being
overlooked because of prejudice.
DEI remains a crucial strategy for creating a fairer, more just society. Advocates of these
programs should continue to voice their support and dedicate collective efforts to maintaining
DEI as a core part of our national agenda. These initiatives align with the founding principles of
our nation, promoting fair representation in our workforce while enhancing organizational
performance.
